EBox Standard and 19"

Basic Information

E-Box is needed to connect sensors (i.e. temperature sensors) to CustoSec or ARANSEC via the network. E-Box has its own IP-address and is an independent host within the network. The number of installed E-Boxes is unlimited. This allows to implement an extensive monitoring of environmental sensors throughout the network.

Sensors are patched directly to E-Box with a maximum cable length of about 120 meters and supplied by Power Over Ethernet (PoE).

Note: Both E-Boxes need to be connected to a Hub or Switch with 10 or 10/100 MBit. E-Box supports 10 MBit half duplex. It cannot be operated on a pure 100 MBit-port.

Package Contents and Description

E-Box Standard

The package contains:

  • one E-Box
  • one Power Supply
  • a patch cable
  • a documentation

E-Box Standard has 4 LAN Ports (RJ45) on the front side to connect the sensors. On the Back Side it has one LAN Port to connect Ethernetbox to the network and 1 plug for power supply.

Maintenance

CustoSec E-Boxes do not need any maintenance.

Installation of E-Box

Installation

Installation of the E-Boxes is straight forward.

  1. Connection of the port labelled "Ethernet" to a Hub or Switch (10/100 MBit!). This port is on the back side on both models of E-Box.
  2. Connection of the sensors to the ports on the front side. Sensors have to be patched to E-Box directly (!) to ensure power supply.
  3. Connection of the power supply

Once plugged in, E-Box will start automatically and after a couple of seconds there will be a green LED "Status" will start blinking. The green LED "Lnk" indicates the status of the network connection and the red LED "Act" indicates network activity.

Configuration of E-Box

After first start up E-Box can be accessed by its default network address: 192.168.1.199 (net mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1.). This address can be changed (see below) Before implementing E-Box in CustoSec, it has to be configured.

  • To access the box, it is easiest to connect to it with a cross over patch cable from a notebook.
  • The user interface of E-Box can be accessed by browser. The default user is "admin" and the default password is "secret" (this can and should be be changed later)
  • The link "setup" opens the configuration page. This provides the following settings:

Address 192.168.1.199 The network address of E-Box. This should be set to an address in the same network segment of CustoSec. Please Note: The IP-Address has to be fixed. DHCP can not be used.
Netmask 255.255.255.0 The net mask for the network address

Refresh (sec) 5 Time to refresh in the "show" mode. Is not really needed for implementation in CustoSec
Location - Can be used to enter the location of E-Box, i.e. "Building B"
Sensors 4 / 12 Should be 4 in E-Box Standard and 12 in E-Box 19 Inch
Temperature Unit Celsius Drop down to choose the unit f measure for temperature. The value provided for CustoSec will be in this unit
SNMP Read com. public The Community name for reading SNMP-Data. This should be set to something like "CustoSec". This community name will be needed to configure the checks in CustoSec
SNMP Write com. public The Community name for writing SNMP-Data. This community name will not be needed since CustoSec is not writing SNMP-Information
SNMP Trap com. public The Community name for sending SNMP-Traps. This community name will not be needed since CustoSec is not sending or responding on Traps
Trap dest.1 and 2 0.0.0.0 The Destination IP-Address for SNMP Traps. This will not be needed since CustoSec is not sending or responding on Traps
Network Server Port 4000 The standard port for the network server. Should not be changed
Username admin Username to access E-Box User Interface. Should be changed for security reasons. There is only one user on E-Box
Password secret Password to access E-Box User Interface. Should be changed for security reasons


E-Box Setup
  • At least IP-address, community name (write) and Username / Password should be configured.
  • "Save Settings" for saving the settings. This will take a couple of seconds (Connection will be lost if the IP-Address has been changed).
  • E-Box should now be patched to the network (and installed at it's final destination)

Implementing Sensors

On delivery, E-Box is preconfigured for temperature sensors on all ports.

Example for connecting a sensor (magnet contact):

  1. Shut Down of E-Box and take away power supply
  2. Connection of the Magnet Sensor to a LAN-plug that is patched directly to E-Box, i.e. Port 1
  3. Re-establish power connection to E-Box
  4. Login to user interface and choose "setup" and "sensors" menu
  5. On port 1 choose "switch contact" from the drop down menu. In the caption a name for the sensor can be given.
  6. Finalize configuration with "save settings"

In the "show" page the sensor will now be shown and it's actual value will be presented.

For further information on other sensors, please follow their individual instructions.

Implementation of E-Box in CustoSec

Im Konfigurationsmenü von CustoSec findet sich in der Menüleiste ein Eintrag „Ethernetbox“ zum Aufruf des Assistenten zur Anlage von Ethernetboxen.

Mit dem Button „Add New Ethernetbox“ wird das Eingabefenster für die Ethernetbox geöffnet. Hier werden die Daten der Ethernetbox genauso eingegeben, wie vorher bei der Konfiguration der Ethernetbox selbst (IP-Adresse, Community, etc.). Je nach angeschlossenelm Sensor müssen diese auch in dieser Konfigurationsseite am jeweiligen Port angelegt werden.

Mit „Warn“ und „Critical“ wird definiert, ab wann eine Meldung durch Custo/Sec erfolgen soll. Beispiel für einen Temperatursensor: Bei „warn und bei „crit“ wird die Überwachungstemperatur eingegeben (z.b. warn: 80:110, crit 70:120). Dies bedeutet, dass unter 70 Grad und über 120 Grad eine „critical“-Meldung ausgegeben wird. Unter 80 Grad und über 110 Grad wird nur eine „warn“-Meldung ausgegeben. Die Werte zwischen 80 und 110 Grad gelten als Normalwerte (ein Beispiel folgt im nächsten Bild):

Die Eingabe mit dem Button „Add Ethernetbox“ abschließen. In der Übersicht ist die neu angelegt Ethernetbox sichtbar und die Einrichtung ist abgeschlossen.

5.5  Behandlung einer Ethernetbox in Custo/Sec

Mit dem in Kapitel 5.4 Einrichten der Ethernetbox in Custo/Sec Seite 6 beschriebenen Assistenten können beliebig viele Ethernetboxen in Custo/Sec angelegt und „erstmalig“ eingerichtet werden. Der Assistent legt die Ethernetbox dann als eigenen Host in Custo/Sec an und die Sensoren jeweils als Service. Änderungen an der Konfiguration der Sensoren erfolgen jeweils bei den Hosts und deren Services, analog zur Konfiguration sonstiger Hosts. Soll eine Ethernetbox wieder gelöscht werden, muss dies sowohl im Assistenten mit dem „delete“-Button erfolgen, als auch in der Hostliste von Custo/Sec.

5.6  Zurücksetzen der Ethernetbox in den Auslieferungszustand 

Zum Reset der Konfiguration in den Auslieferungszustand muss der „Reset“-Taster an der Rückseite der Box während des Einschaltens mit einem spitzen Gegenstand (z.B. aufgebogene Büroklammer) etwa 5 Sekunden betätigt werden. Danach muss die Stromversorgung erneut für einige Sekunden unterbrochen werden. Beim erneuten Start sind nun alle Einstellungen, einschließlich IP-Adresse und Passwort wieder im Grundzustand.
